planning approval for modern low energy hilltop dwelling

the client wanted to create a new low energy open plan dwelling house on a standard sized residential plot to take full advantage of the expansive views from the hilltop site.

while the majority of the dwelling is on a single level, internal stairs access a cantilevered internal mezzanine, with glazed doors to a partially covered external first floor terrace; high level rooflights ensure evening light floods the main living space, with full height glazed doors to all southern wals of the new dwelling.

a ground source heat pump and roof mounted pv cells to generate electricity combine with high insultation and air-tightness levels to reduce the carbon impact of the new dwelling.

the new dwelling has significant covered car-port space that provides a covered but external evening terrace space from which to view the sunset on a summer evening.
